Abstract
Timetables are often confusing and difficult to understand. To
overcome this computer based 'Journey Planners' have been produced
that use a series of text prompts, menus and time listings to
gather, and then present timetable listings to users. An alternative
method is to make the route presentation graphical.
To explore this method the graphical concept was tested in a survey
of bus passengers, to gather user requirements. A prototype graphical
system was developed, and placed on the World Wide Web and feedback
collected via e-mail. The graphical concept was popular with the
bus users, but the system needs further development before commercial
feasibility can be accessed.
Benefits
gives the traveller more information, in a clear overview of service
frequency. An addition to conventional listings not a replacement.
